Ok, so Vancouver obviously wasn’t going to work out. After living in a shoebox of an apartment in New York, the top three priorities were House, House, House. We had no intention of moving to the most expensive housing market in Canada.
But since our dreams had already migrated north of the border, we decided to look around at the other cities in Canada.

Below is the list of least affordable cities, ranked by Median House Price divided by the Median Income.
Notice that in Los Angeles, you have people buying houses worth over 11 times their income. It’s sheer insanity.
And look at that. New York City turns out to be more affordable than Vancouver.

Since this is a blog about moving to Canada, I’ll include the breakdown of all Canadian cities according to this study:
The study is definitely worth a read. It will give you a great idea of what you will be getting into in whichever city you choose.
Here’s another great Housing Affordability Study by Royal Bank of Canada. From Sept 2007, the study shows that pressure is mounting on Canadian housing affordability.
